Welcome to The Sheepwalk Fiber Mill

We will not be accepting new clients/jobs from August 1 - October 15. Part of the mill is education and we will be off to gather wool, learn new things, attend festivals and prepare for our own events.

What to expect

Artisan Work

At The Sheepwalk, we believe that your product is important which means we take care to share with you any ideas we have or troubles we come across. Nothing is impossible, just sometimes impassible. We treat your fiber as if it were from our sheep. You won't find any hidden fees for extra steps we took to get your fiber from washer to processing.

Years of Experience

Your mill owner is Jennifer (me) and I have over 15 years experience as a dyer, yarn shop owner and almost 10 years under my belt as a rancher. We work with all types of fibers but specialize in the unique. We love to work in color as much as natural, so don't be shy about asking us about color swatches or working with dyed fibers. We use Cusing Dyes as our primary because it is vegetable based and will be looking to add eco-friendly dyes to our mill in 2025. We also use the gentlest soaps and earth-friendly methods to get your fiber clean. We are constantly looking at ways we can make use of every part of the fleece too!

Camelids

When shearing, make sure you separate your blankets from the neck and legs (2nds and 3rds). Currently everyone is having core spun yarn created with the 2nds and 3rds. We like to innovate by creating custom blends for yarn. Please ask us what's possible!

Wool is Wool

Not! No two fleeces are alike and the same goes for camelids, rabbits and wool producing goats. We look at each fleece as a story. We take your needs in to consideration but will not hesitate to ask about blending if we see a need to soften or tame a wilder fleece. Your call is the final call in such cases.

We pick at every stage until the feed hits the carder. From there we can't pull out VM but try to send clean product. Please make sure you shear in a clean space, shake out any loose debris and let us know if you have any comments on a particular fleece. We do our best not to up-charge or present hidden expenses. A fleece full of VM will be charged $5/lb for the sorting/picking time we had to add on.
